A European research project

ExtremeXP (EXPerimentation driven and user eXPerience oriented analytics for eXtremely Precise outcomes and decisions) is a collaborative European research and innovation project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme.

ExtremeXP proposes a new paradigm for data analysis for professional use, which we call "experimentation-driven analytics". The aim is to improve decision-making processes by providing public and private decision-makers with information based on accurate, fit-for-purpose and reliable data by evaluating complex analysis variables in an automated way and taking account of end-users' preferences and feedback.

The method focuses on learning from experimentation to predict user needs, user profiling and proactively generating a precise analysis workflow to produce accurate results and personalised information.

ExtremeXP integrates into a common framework cutting-edge research results in the fields of data integration, machine learning, visual analysis, artificial intelligence, decentralised trust, knowledge engineering and model-based engineering.

More info can be found on the website of the project.

20 European partners

ExtremeXP is a collaborative European research and innovation project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe programme.

It was designed, developed and tested from 2023 to 2026 and involved 20 European partners, including :

. 7 universities (Amsterdam, Bournemouth, Delft, Athens - ICCS -, Ljubljana, Prague, UPC-Catalunya)

. 5 research organisations (Athena Research Center, project coordinator, DFKI - German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence -, i2Cat, Ideko, Sintef)

. 3 large companies (Airbus Defence and Space, CS Group, Intracom Telecom)

. 5 SMEs and start-ups (Activeon, BitSparkles, Interactive 4D, IthinkUPC, Moby).

5 use cases

Five use cases have been prototyped:
. flood forecasting

. cyber security awareness

. protecting the public and organising emergency services in the event of fire in urban areas

. optimising industrial transport chains

. preventing industrial breakdowns.

Customizable gamification for user motivation

The task of Interactive 4D was to design and develop a gamification module and to integrate it within the ExtremeXP framework.

The objectives were to motivate end-users of the ExtremeXP framework to provide adequate feedback, which is necessary for the optimization of complex analytics and the improvement of user models.

The methodology involved gathering user feedback through a gamification approach, by transforming user interaction with the ExtremeXP framework into an immersive serious game / fun activity through a mix of challenges and virtual rewards.

This solution is now commercialized as a customizable gamification module that can be adapted to any data workflows, including generative AI ones through configurable API connectors.
